10 Tips For New Bloggers

It's only been a few weeks since I started my little blog and wow, what a journey it has been already! I have learnt so much and I wanted to share all of the amazing tips people shared with me along the way, here in one helpful little blog post (with a few #ootd pictures thrown in too)!

Do your research
I did hours of research prior to officially starting my blog. I read blog posts, watched YouTube videos and found all sorts of tips that helped me learn more about blogging before I started, rather than learning 'on the job'.

Get inspired
Explore and discover what blogs are out there! You can take inspiration from other blogs that interest you and this really helped me to get started. It also reminds you of where you want to be!

Take part in 'blogger chats'
Probably one of the most helpful things I did was take part in a few blogger chats on Twitter. This is where you can network with other bloggers at the same time every week, using a specific hashtag and this is where I really got some amazing advice. It also helped me to find new bloggers to follow and increased my following before I even started! My favourite accounts to follow are @bloggerstribe, @thebloggercrowd and @fbloggers.

Buy a domain name
This isn't absolutely necessary but I found it just makes your blog seem so much more professional from the outset. I purchased my domain name through Blogger and it only costs £10 per year. If blogging doesn't work out for you, you don't have to renew it again so I thought it was worth it!

Choose your branding wisely
This was something I really wanted to get right. I wanted a professional and polished blog template. I had heard a lot about pipdig.co and knew it was something worth investing in. For as little as £29, you could download a ready made blog template, which looks so professional and really gave my blog that extra edge! This is what mainly gave me the confidence to finally publish my first blog post!

Be consistent
This is linked to your branding as you need your blog, Twitter and Instagram to all tie together seamlessly. However, this is also linked to your posting schedule. Choose a day to post and stick to it, this will help people know when to expect new content and hopefully increase the traffic heading to your blog. Although, I have to admit this isn't something I've mastered just yet... I am aiming to post every Sunday, for the record!

'Comparison is the thief of joy'
I personally found this very hard at first. I wanted all of my content to look like something you'd find on all of my favourite blogs, but it's just not realistic. Do your thing and as long as you're proud of it, that's all that matters!

Lightbulb moment? Write it down!
Before I published my first post, I had around 30 post titles drafted. These were just ideas for posts I'd like to write in the future. Whenever I had an idea, I wrote it down right away. Half of them will probably never get published, but it's better to have too many ideas than not enough.

Be yourself
There's only one you and that's what makes life so great! I struggled to find the confidence to start blogging, I worried about what other people would think. Then I remembered, there's only one me and I just need to be myself and believe in myself. Honestly, I wish I could have realised that sooner because blogging is just amazing!

Go for it!
If you've got this far, you've got all the gear and more than enough idea! Now all you need to do is go for it! Your blog is your corner of the internet where you can post whatever you like, do your thing!

Have you got any tips for new bloggers? Will you be taking any of these tips on board? If you are new to blogging, leave your blog link in the comments, I'd love to check it out!

  13. This is a great post! I started blogging not too long ago myself and I did most of these things as well! Now I'm looking to buy a better theme for my blog to make it look more professional and aesthetically pleasing. I learnt that once you decide in your head you have to post on a certain day and you write down your posting schedule it's so much easier to stick to it! You just have to see it and motivate yourself to do it. It's also helpful to write the posts beforehand and then schedule them for a certain day. That way you can write when you have free time but it'll be posted whenever you need it to be!
Amazing blog, keep doing what you're doing!
